Cabin Fever Trivia Night a Success! (Thu, 2017-03-23) Highlights and winners of the Trivia Night fundraiser

GardenShare's fifth annual "Cabin Fever Trivia Night" was held on March 18, 2017 and was a record-setting event for the organization. Sixteen teams of four took part in the event and answered questions about farming and farmers markets, the Adirondacks, North Country food and beverage, local sports, and music. When we finished that evening, we had raised over $2,500 to support GardenShare's work to solve the problem of hunger in St. Lawrence County!

In Defense of Food (Thu, 2017-03-09) Movie Screening Rescheduled for March 26 at 3:00

The February showing of the movie “In Defense of Food” was snowed out, so GardenShare and the Potsdam Food Co-op have rescheduled it for Sunday, March 26, at 3:00 PM.  Admission is free for the film, which will be followed by discussion with local experts.  The event will be held at the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Canton.  "In Defense of Food" is

Position Available: Americorps VISTA (Sat, 2017-03-04) Full time Americorps position starts in June

GardenShare is seeking a full-time person for an Americorps VISTA position.  This position will work with the five farmers markets in St. Lawrence County to promote the use of SNAP benefits at the markets and to engage more volunteers and build the sustainability of the markets.  The VISTA will also work to strengthen GardenShare and build the organization's capacity through volunteer recruitment and support.

February 24 marks the third annual National CSA Sign-Up Day when you can join other like-minded people around the North Country who are committed to eating healthy foods, supporting their local farmer, and being adventurous in the kitchen. February sounds like a crazy time to be thinking about buying food from a local farmer. But the concept behind Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is to share both the risk and the rewards with the farmer.

 GardenShare is now a partner with the United Way of Northern New York.

This partnership will allow GardenShare to apply for funding through the United Way campaign.  To receive funding from United Way, the program must be unduplicated, meet a real need, show positive and specific results and have a positive effect on community health and well-being.
