Local Food

Connecting consumers and producers and removing barriers to access are among the ways GardenShare works to promote a local food system that ensures food security for all county residents. Some of the ways we do this are:

Local Food Guide

Our annual guide provides comprehensive informations and direction to the best resources for fresh, local food in and around the county.

Friend of the Market

As a Friend of the Market, GardenShare supports and promotes the county’s five farmers markets by allowing for debit, credit and SNAP purchases, training volunteers, and producing the Farmers Market Customer Guide to ensure customers understand and receive the various incentives and cost-sharing options available.

Community Networking and Planning

To help meet our joint mission of ensuring food access, as well as supporting the local food system, GardenShare serves on a number of local coalitions, workgroups and advisory councils, including, but not limited to:

  • Local Food Advisory Group
  • Bridge to Wellness Coalition
  • North Country Human Services Coalition
  • St. Lawrence County Public Transit Task Force
  • Food Access Programs Alliance
